Drone and Dual Flutes

The drone flute is a two chamber flute which plays very much like a standard flute, but one of the sound chambers plays a single note. Usually the drone side plays the same note as the standard flute side with all finger holes covered. The player can switch between playing the flute as a standard flute or as a drone by blowing through one or two blow holes.

Rising Moon Flutes offers a unique drone flute that, unlike other drones, looks exactly like a standard flute. The drone chamber is integrated into the round body, giving the instrument the look, feel, light weight, and easy of play of a standard flute. (It comes as a surprise to the listener when the player brings in the drone affect because they believe you are playing a single flute.)

In addition to easy of play, this unique design allows for several options that are not found on other drone flutes. One is an optional thumb that is located on the bottom of the flute, on the drone side, allowing your drone to become a harmonizing flute, capable of playing two drone notes.

Also, this design provides for a true dual flute design, where one side of the flute can be tuned to one key, the other side tuned to another, allowing for two flutes in one. Each side of the flute has the full compliment of finger holes, sound mechanism and blow hole, but again, looks like a single flute. A fun use of this flute is to play one verse of a song in one key, then flip the flute over, and play the next verse in another key!
